Thirteen Signs You're a Yuppie Mom All of the following are true occurrences from the past couple of weeks: 1. Your 4 1/2 year old DD is playing with her tea set and you overhear her offering her teddy bear a "latte". 2. You see a blog title called "If You Give My Toddler a Blackberry" and you think it's referring to an electronic device rather than a fruit. 3. Your 19 month old DS actually knows which button on Daddy's Blackberry to push in order to get a dial tone. 4. Your DD recognizes a Mozart tune but has no idea what Grandpa is referring to when he says "wascally wabbit". 5. You have a long discussion with some fellow moms about raw milk vs. organic milk vs. goat's milk and the best places to purchase the aforementioned. 6. You seriously consider driving two hours each way to attend a chicken pox party. 7. You overhear the kids at park day playgroup pretending to be ancient Romans fleeing the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius. 8. The kids in the playgroup have names like Soleil, Finn, Lydia, Ivy, Graham, Clark, Catriona, Coco, Leilani, Gianna, Leon, Tobias, Veronique, Jasper, Bram, and Atticus. 9. Your mom asks your DD "what does Daddy do at his job?" and when she answers "he makes money for [name of his employer]" you realize you have no clue how to explain his job function in a way that will make sense to her any more than that. 10. Your DD talks about getting a dog "after I finish graduate school". 11. You volunteer your DS as a guinea pig for the Learning Lab at Stanford and you use the opportunity to explain the scientific method to his big sister. 12. Your DS makes the American Sign Language sign for "milk" when presented with a cup as part of the experiment. 13. Your old babysitter growing up is now a post-doctorate fellow in neuroscience at Stanford and just got married at a Buddhist retreat in a ceremony that started with the "marriage is what brings us together today" speech from The Princess Bride. |

That was hilarious! Mine is up at Special K Family
Lovely post!
Happy Thursday thirteen!!!
Funny list. Some of those items reminded me of my own two kids.
These are FANTASTIC!!!
Although, what about the dads??
My list is up at http://burntofferings.blogspot.com/
Cheers for now
Bernie
So I am not sure, but I think that the chicken pox party is for kids who's parents didn't get them vaccinated? Hadn't heard of those.
The milk comparisons was funny too. Don't hear that so much back here in NH!
Just what is a blackberry if it's not a fruit?
YAY Princess Bride!
"Marriage..."
Julie: a Blackberry is an electronic pager-type device that allows wireless access to one's email 24/7/365. My DH refers to his as "the fount of all evil" since it creates the expectation that he will be at his boss' beck and call any time any place.
What a funny post! And y'know, I love the name Atticus, but I reckon it's because I love To Kill a Mockingbird, LOL.
Happy TT, and thanks for visiting my blog!
Cute TT.
Here is my addition to your list. Everyone has their own computer.
What's a chicken pox party?
Thanks for your feedback on "branding." I'm still trying to decide what to do. Any powerful brand will resonate with some people and turn others off.
Too too funny. Great post.
LOL, great list. My kids are older now, but man I saw myself in some of those.
I did not think I was a yuppie, but I have had MANY discussions on raw/organic/goats milk! Plus other things hit the mark, but I just can't go there, I can't!
Does cloth diapering in the cutest, most fashionable butt covers ever make me a yuppie, or crunchy?
What a great post...hahaha!
Hi, and thanks for stopping by mine. (I don't worry about everything btw.) Besides, I thought the baby duct taped to the wall was funny.
Guess that tells you how un-yuppy I am. ;)
Cute post though.
OMG! I was a Yuppie Mom! And I actually hosted the Chicken Pix Party! The sad thing was, I got the Chicken Pox too! :~)
thanx for the giggles. I was in need of the lift.
and for visiting my tribute to my husband's grandmother who passed on Tuesday.
The BlackBerry comment made me howl!! I have a pretend BlackBerry that I let me kids play with. They like to send me messages. :)
These are great! Love #1.
Hope you don't mind that I was LAUGHING so hard. Of course, my ds was with one of my friends and they talked about going to Starbucks.
His response "Starbucks is corporate evil".
Um, oops? LOL.
So funny -- and sorry to say that a few might apply to me!
I seriously loved this post, and it indeed, is a sign of the times within which we live!
Happy TT!!
Those are great! My personal favorites: the 'latte' comment, the playground names (wow!), and 'graduate school'.
really funny tt! thanks for stopping by and i am glad so i could read this!
smiles, bee
*LOL* Totally funny!
LOL! Too funny!
That was hilarilous.
Those made me laugh.
Hahaha! This is a great list!! I loved reading it ... :)
What an awesome post!! I would love to go to a wedding/joining ceremony that startted with that speech. Funniest part for me in the whole movie...except for all of the other funny parts!
LMAO!!!
Those playdate names... I can SO relate!
Cameron, Carson, Spencer, Nolan, ...
and I won't even get into the girls!
#4 is so sad :-( More Bugs Bunny!
That's so funny! I could never explain my husband's job to anyone either.
Oh, and how can you be a Red Sox fan living in the Bay Area!?! Haha! They just (are still playing) my "boys" (the A's) :)
Great list! How cute:)
I totally fell for the blackberry thing. And my 8, 9 and 12 year olds each have their own phone.
How? HOW did I become a yuppy mom?
Your 12 year old uses 10 times the minutes and 100 times the text messages that you do a month.

Happy TT
Some of these make sense for a Yuppie Dad too :0
Mine's at http://perrinelson.com/2007/6/7/789.aspx
That was too funny...quite a lift after taking care of sick babies all day today! Thanks for visiting my TT!
That was so funny and so true! I thought the exact same thing when I saw the post about "If you give your toddler a blackberry".
That was a funny list! Sounds like you have your hands full with those clever ones. :)
Happy TT13!
This was too funny!
Great list! Very Funny. :)

LOL! Cute funny list. My 15month old knows how to dial on my Chocolate, does that count?
Hope you had a great Thursday!

ROFL! That's a funny list. But what is a chicken pox party? In my day, it was where uninfected kids were exposed to infected kids, so they'd get it over with.
With all the vaccinations nowadays, is this still the case? (I hate the vaccinations, though. They get the chicken pox, anyway, so what's the point?)gk
Great list! I laughed at several of those especially the one about the latte, I can see my nieces and nephews doing that. Thanks for stopping by my blog!
I am so there with you! A few years ago after finishing Story of the World my kids and their best friends played "Nomads in the fertile crescent" for MONTHS!! Gotta love those homeschooled kids!
Being a Yuppiue Mom doesn't sound that bad to me! ;-)
Thanks for visiting my Google services TT.
Wow, I always considered me totally un-yuppie (besides not being a mom), but I actually had to think for a moment on the Blackberry thing. And I've never even had one of these organizer thingies (nor do I want one)! How sad is that? ;o)
But your kids seem to be really entertaining. You must have a lot of fun with them. LOL
Well, I'm not a yuppy ... but my kids are! LOL Great list!
absolutely hilarious!!
Very informative and eye opening! Thanks for visiting.
Oh man, I am such an underachiever. :)
My kids know all the dialog from all the Monty Python movies, and all the classical music Bugs Bunny cartoons.
When they were about 12, I introduced them to "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" and carefully watched for their reaction. When they "got it", I relaxed because I knew we'd get along famously. [grin]
Hmmm. All of those things tell me that you do not come from a rural community.
Except for Mozart and the scientific method, those are relatively foreign concepts out here.
I loved this T13. It's a peek into a different world.
Seriously, why would anyone saddle a poor kid with a name like Atticus? I hope they teach him to fight, starting at age one. But I grew up in Louisiana, so what do I know?
I'd totally forgotten how folks take their kids to expose them early to chicken pox. I guess it works, both of our girls had them before kindergarten.
Loved the latte thing. I hate coffee, and the first time I was driving and Lovely Wife had me drive through a Starbucks and order her a something-something, I just looked at her. Had her repeat it over and over until I could say the whole thing and then regurgitated it to the person behind the speaker. I felt like someone had tricked me into cussin' in a foreign language. The whole thing stressed me out.
OMG! these are hysterically funny!Kids playing at being romans caused coffee to shoot straight up my nose.
In my case it would've been 13 signs you're an Artist Mom with my kids being weaned on Clockwork Orange, native american flute music, the Ramones and gallery openings.
Really cute list! I can TOTALLY relate, if you know what I mean!! :)
That was great! I totally need to get more creative with my 13's. Happy Friday! Thanks for checking out my Starbucks 13.
This is hilarious. And the babysitter sounds like my kind of person...you just can't beat The Princess Bride! Best movie ever!
great list! well done! happy TT!
That was one of the most hilarious TT's I've ever read! You live a fascinating life!!
Aww I don't think you're a yuppie mom. It sounds like you have some very interesting and creative kids though.
I appreciate your TT soo much! Thanks for visiting mine.
Absolutely priceless, especially the latte.
Thanks for stopping by. Your Canadian geography is right on. We had the option of travelling that route but decided trying to cross the border with all our baggage might pose as a problem.
Take care.
too funny- life in the new millennium!
ROFL!!! I think it's safe to assume we won't be running into each other at playgroup. (Er, what's a playgroup? :D)
Fantastic!! And I have to say that #4 makes me want to cry, proving that middle age has hit me harder than I thought!
LOL! Too funny. I have to say, I've never been a yuppie mom. :)
very cute! We lived in the east Bay a couple of years ago, you just described our playgroup.
Thanks for visiting!
Thanks for the smile and for visiting my site.
What little blessings...
Too funny!! I LOVE it! Happy TT!!
