"It's not fair that grownups get to vote and kids don't!" my five year old DD wailed as we drove away from the polling place where I had just cast my ballot.
"Do you even know any of the people who are running for president?" I asked her.
She couldn't come up with a single name.
So then I asked her the name of our current president.
She admitted that she didn't know.
"I'll give you a hint," I said. "His first name is George."
She beamed: "Washington!"

If knowing who was running was the litmus test I would have been voting at 6 and I know 45 year olds who still wouldn't be;).
Yep, it's a bit scary that naturalized citizens have to pass a basic civics test in order to become eligible to vote but native-born ones don't.
